Mission Statement

The overall goal of the North Little Rock Fire Department is to prevent the loss of life and property to citizens that are entrusted to our care, through direct intervention and preventative education. This is to be accomplished while ensuring the health and safety of our firefighters and maintaining the highest degree of professionalism within our department. The Fire Department is committed to the pursuit of its mission primarily through prevention and education. When incidents do occur we provide emergency and non-emergency responses to and mitigation of fire, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, technical rescues, and any natural, man made or other situation that may arise.

Calendar of Events

Citizens Fire Academy Alumni meets the 3rd Thursday of every month, Fire Prevention Week is the first full week in October and the Annual Fire Prevention Fun Fest is held during Fire Prevention Week.

Services Provided

Fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, water rescue, high-angle rope rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, inspection and fire prevention. Public education through public/private schools and elderly high-rise residences.

How to become a Firefighter: Applications may be picked up at Central Fire Station, 723 N. Maple Street any time during the year. The Human Resources Department accepts applications only during the period that the testing announcement is posted publicly prior to the written exam date. The NLR Fire Department written test is currently being given twice a year, on the first Saturday in February and the last Saturday in August. Successful applicants are placed by the Civil Service Commission on a certified eligibility list and, as vacancies arise, names from the list are provided to the Fire Department for the completion of the background investigation, medical and psychological exams and any other requirements. The list is certified by the Commission to be effective for six months from date of certification

Public Tours of Fire Station: The North Little Rock Fire Department does offer tours of it's Fire Stations to individuals or groups. If you would like to set up a tour, please call (501) 340-5377.

F.O.C.U.S. Program

In efforts to minimize the loss of life and property to the citizens of North Little Rock, the fire department developed the "Firefighters Organize Community Understanding on Safety Program". This program educates the public on home fire safety through the voluntary home fire inspections and a home smoke detector installation and check. To have a free smoke detector installed or a home inspection performed call us at 340-5410. Fire Scene Assistance Program

To assist families who have a major residential fire with immediate needs of basic clothing and personal hygiene materials.
